FloodRoute

because cars can't swim.

✨As featured in Tiburon, CA's The Ark news (Jan 27, 2026)

FloodRoute shows which roads may flood during high tides — before you drive into trouble.Regions covered:- Boston, MA
- Marin County, CA
- Miami, FL
- New York City, NY
- San Francisco, CA
- Tampa, FL
FloodRoute works by stacking multiple data sources including:- NOAA Tides & Currents for tide heights
- OpenStreetMap for road geometry
- USGS Elevation Data for road and topographical heights
- FEMA Flood Zones for general known flood zones
- OpenWeatherMap for barometric pressure
Then, this is all reconciled with two "human" layers of observations:- 10 years of historical news reports as a sort of "data layer mask"
- Crowd-sourced user reports for a final set of validation.
With this stack of information, FloodRoute attempts to anticipate estimated flood-prone streets so you can plan safer routes in coastal communities.Inspired by Nextdoor neighbors in my home of Marin County, California, what started as a simple idea became a full-fledged app when I racked up nearly 200 requests to build the app within 24 hours of sharing my idea.So here it is at last... my first ever iOS app. 🎉
